10 Reasons to Choose a Care Home

Deciding on whether a care home is right for your loved one can be one of life’s most difficult decisions. That’s why at Crossways Care Home we are here to guide you through this decision-making process to enable you to choose the most appropriate care home for your loved one.

We create a comforting routine to keep residents safe and secure, whilst striving to do even the smallest things right, recognising that it is often the little details that make the biggest difference to someone’s long term happiness.

Peace of mind is essential when everyday tasks in life become difficult and therefore having assistance on hand 24/7 can relieve stress and give you and your loved one the comfort of knowing all needs are met.

Read on to find out just some of the benefits of residential living at Crossways care home.

Getting Assistance at a Care Home

Getting older can be difficult for everyone. However, a major concern for families arises when their loved ones are physically fragile and they need assistance with daily routines such as dressing and getting in and out of the bath safely. It can impact severely and is often a constant worry for families. Help at home can assist but what happens when your loved one is alone and vulnerable to a fall on the stairs or any other incident that would only be noticed if they had the aid of round the clock care available 24/7?

Here at Crossways families can rest knowing that the immediate necessities of your loved ones are met and in the case of an emergency there is always a dedicated professional on-site to help. Within our Home, there is a lift to the first floor and a chair lift to assist those who prefer the stairs.

Safety at a Care Home

Safety is one of the most important reasons to choose a Care Home. Knowing that your loved one is in a safe environment and cared for by professional staff is essential to your own well being! It is surprising how many people feel a sense of relief when their loved one takes residence at Crossways comforted by knowing that they are in safe hands and well looked after.

At Crossways Care Home our Manager, Selvarajen Amoorthasamy, oversees all aspects of safety ensuring we meet all up to date standards and guidelines. Selvarajen, (Kelvin) has been with us for over 18 years and all of our staff have extensive professional experience in caring for patients with a broad range of conditions.

Companionship at a Care Home

One major concern for elderly people is loneliness. Family and friends are often busy and unable to visit them more than for a number of hours. Depression can result and has a direct correlation to appetite loss and boredom in their lives. Elderly people, particularly in their twilight years, are often delighted to find companionship here at Crossways. We have up to 25 residents in our Home who come from a variety of walks of life. We value every individual who comes to live in Crossways and our staff work with them to understand their personalities and particular needs.

We pride ourselves on treating our residents with respect and dignity. We also encourage residents to integrate into our community setting and eat together. At Crossways we create an atmosphere of happiness and togetherness – we play card games and board games, organise trips out and have taken our residents to the sea which they particularly love. Humans are social beings and especially in later years, companionship becomes majorly important to their wellbeing

Food, Nutrition & Hydration at a Care Home

One factor of concern is the lack of appetite displayed by a lot of elderly people. Forgetting or skipping a meal is often a factor in deciding that the time is right for your loved one to go into residential care. Again the responsibility to provide food and to encourage/monitor regular eating patterns takes a toll on the family and is an additional chore.

At Crossways Care Home our Chef, Glenn Stacey, has been with us cooking delicious nutritional meals since 2013. Providing meals that contain the right nutritional content is essential for health in later years. At Crossways we also accommodate individual nutritional requirements so if you have specific requirements such as intolerances/allergies to dairy or gluten or simply being a fussy eater, you can let our staff know. Either way, all staff ensure that residents have a varied and nutritional diet according to their individual needs.

Peace of Mind at a Care Home

Peace of mind is a key reason to decide that the time has come when your loved one’s needs become more like round the clock care. With busy lives it is impossible or unreasonable to expect relatives to continue this from home and, whilst it may seem sad to move them into a residential home, it, in fact, often creates a more harmonious relationship between families.

Crossways will ensure your loved ones enjoy a full life, both social and otherwise. Often residents take up new hobbies and make new friends You, meanwhile, have peace of mind, safe in the knowledge that professional dedicated staff are on-site 24/7.

Daily Activities for Residents at a Care Home

At Crossways we provide a schedule of daily activities so residents always have something to look forward to. Games/exercises, arts/crafts and bingo are just some of the exciting activities we have on offer. We offer days out to local national parks, trust houses and even trips to the seaside. We also have visits from musicians playing classical music as well as a summer BBQ every year that goes down a treat with residents and their visiting families.

Promoting Personal Independence at a Care home

While staying as a resident you will be able to move around and in and out of the Home freely as you wish. We have nineteen single bedrooms as well as three double bedrooms all fitted with TV/ telephone and ensuite facilities. We can also accommodate married couples. Our rooms are all individually decorated and we encourage our residents to bring their own personal possessions to create a “home from home” feel.

Medication Management at a Care Home

Our extensive years’ experience in the care industry means we know exactly how to treat residents. Sometimes elderly people can forget to take their medication at the correct time, even missing them altogether. Mistakes with medication can cause unpleasant or dangerous side effects and even render the medication ineffective. It is therefore essential that medications are administered at the right time. Rest assured our staff have professional experience in administering required medications.

Creating a Family at a Care Home

Finally, at Crossways, our ethos is very much on creating a family environment with staff and residents. Our testimonials are a testament to our family-friendly atmosphere. We hope that you will be happy to join the Crossways family.

At Crossways we pride ourselves on providing exemplary care. We hope to welcome your loved one into our Home.
